CARE Niger celebrates its 40th anniversary

From 23th to 30th November 2014, CARE Niger is celebrating its 40 years of successes and learnings, working for the most vulnerable people and being committed to achieve the best results in various fields such as humanitarian emergency responses, social and economic development, health and education etc.

CARE Niger anniversary week has been conceived as a way to gather its main partners and participants to celebrate joint-successes. A 40 years anniversary is as well a perfect moment to envisage future developments for its action in the country.

CARE Niger’s journey so far…

CARE's presence in Niger is a story of adaptability and belief in change. The 1974 drought emergency called for a quick humanitarian response, and CARE was able to deploy quickly and efficiently. For a decade, CARE humanitarian activities have been implemented through governmental channels, and as of 1984, the organization started to spread out, hire its own staff and launch own interventions in the country

Since the mid-90s, CARE Niger is engaged to foster its impact, using the most innovative approaches in high-value added projects.

Since 1974, CARE International in Niger has reached more than 4 million people through 165 programme initiatives. CARE Niger is currently working in all the région of  the  country.  In  the  region  of  Agadez,  CARE  Niger  is  working  through  local partners. Among its numerous achievements, the “Mata Masu Dubara” women groups, so called village savings and loan groups, havs to be highlighted due to  their impact on empowerment and social involvement .

This approach has now been adopted worldwide as an effective strategy to empower vulnerable women. Children malnutrition and food insecurity have been reduced through integrated agricultural initiatives implying improved water- management techniques, seeds and poultry distribution or forestation. Better governance, youth empowerment, education, HIV reduction and emergency responses count for the more successful domains of intervention for CARE Niger. The reinforcement of Civil Society Organizations (CSO) capacities has always been the priority for CARE Niger.

Why this celebration?

After 40 intense years of work in Niger, CARE is proud to celebrate its successes, share its learning and to plan the future with its partners and the host Government Officials.
