What CARE International does in Romania

CARE International first began working in Romania in 1947. In 2003 we shifted our focus to supporting disabled and abandoned children.

Today, our work in Romania is mainly through national partners with similar goals of achieving victories over widespread poverty.

With the organization SERA, CARE International is working to help reform the country’s child protection system, including abandonment prevention actions, keeping families together, and social inclusion programs.

Along with SERA, CARE International is working with the Federation of Child Protection NGOs (FONPC), an umbrella organization with over 80 members, to deliver assistance to those fleeing into Romania from Ukraine. This includes by providing diapers, baby bottles, baby slings, warm clothes, and blankets. We have trained over 500 psychologists and volunteers on psychosocial support and emergency first aid, and are supporting the social services and child protection departments rehabilitate facilities on arrival and at transit routes for the most vulnerable children.
