The CARE International Confederation
CARE International is a global Confederation of independent national organizations, which includes CARE Members, Affiliates and Country Offices, who work alongside thousands of community-based organizations across over 100 countries to fight poverty and save lives.
Our Confederation includes 19 Members, 1 Affiliate, and 57 Country Offices who share a common vision, mission, and focus to achieve greater impact.
All Members and Affiliates are independent organizations with their own areas of activity, strengths, and expertise who coordinate and work together to achieve our shared goals. Country Offices are supported by different members to implement national programs.
In the past decade, we have made significant efforts to diversify membership and leadership in CARE International. Currently, thirteen of our Members are located in the global north, and six Members and one Affiliate are in the global south.
CARE International has also worked to prioritize local expertise, which is key to our mission of fighting poverty and saving lives. Our ultimate goal is to be locally-led and globally connected.
Our Members
CARE International's members work in two main ways.
One is focused on implementing programs in the countries where they are based, such as Egypt and Peru. The second concentrates on channeling funds and providing support to CARE's Country Offices, established to better respond to national challenges.

Our Affiliates
Affiliates are more independent as they do not necessarily use the CARE brand or identity. However, they work as part of CARE International based on a shared set of goals and values and in line with our mutual strategic interests.

Governance structures
CARE International has a cohesive governance system to ensure cooperation, transparency, and agility in our global fight against poverty. Our structure is designed to strengthen our locally-led impact, guided by our shared principles.
CARE International’s governance bodies include:
Assembly: the highest authority of CARE International, which serves as a representative forum for the diverse, worldwide membership of CARE. It includes representatives from the Board of each CARE Member and Affiliate, who together help to steer the Confederation towards our shared vision, mission, and strategy.
Luis Montoya Tillit (CARE Peru) is the Assembly Chair and Dr. Claudia Warning (CARE Deutschland) is the Assembly Vice Chair. Learn more about them here.
Executive Committee: is a delegated body of, and accountable to, the Assembly. It is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of strategic, operational, legal, and financial activities of CARE International.
The Executive Committee represents CARE International with third parties, and delegates leadership and management of the CARE International Secretariat (see below) to the Secretary-General/Executive Director, overseeing their work and that of the Secretariat.

CARE International Secretariat
CARE International's Secretariat supports the advancement of CARE’s joint global priorities and interests.
It is overseen by the Executive Committee and funded by the membership to:
- Convene global governance, policy, and measure and report on accountability
- Help to define and advance shared strategic priorities
- Support coordination of global communications and advocacy
- Represent CARE International at the United Nations, the European Union, and other global forums.
