CARE began working in Zimbabwe in 1992 in response to a severe regional drought and later expanded its programming to address longer-term development issues with a focus on economic development. Today, CARE International in Zimbabwe has a diverse program focused on the following areas;

  • Food and nutrition security
  • Climate resilient livelihoods,
  • Economic development (including micro-finance, business development services, input and output markets)
  • Education and
  • Water, sanitation and hygiene

Other programming areas include social protection, sexual reproductive, maternal and child health and youth focused programming.

Through strategic partnerships, CARE works with the most vulnerable women and girls (while engaging men and boys) in Zimbabwe to reduce poverty through development initiatives and humanitarian action. We particularly focus on empowering women and girls, increasing food security and resilience, and responding to emergencies when they strike.
