Manila (08 May 2015) - As of 10 a.m. Friday, Typhoon Noul (locally known as Dodong) was located based on all available data at 480 km East Northeast of Borongan, Eastern Samar in the Philippines having maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph.
State weather bureau PAGASA reported that there is a possibility for Noul to develop into a super typhoon because of its pattern of intensifying. Noul is expected to hit land in the province of Isabela-Cagayan on Sunday, May 10.
CARE is closely monitoring the typhoon situation and coordinating with UNOCHA, the National Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Council and international non-government organization networks in Manila.
CARE emergency staff in Manila are on standby to immediately respond if needed and in coordination with the local partners present in the areas that will be affected. CARE has already identified and alerted its suppliers of emergency food packs and water, sanitation and hygiene kits that have presence across all regions in case there’s a need for an immediate response.
“Our emergency team is ready to make rapid assessments in affected areas on the immediate needs of the affected people after the landfall. We will be ready to respond if needed,” said Elisa Nuada, Acting CARE Philippines’ Country Director.
