FRANCE National Director receives Legion of Honor

Paris, June 28, 2011 –  Philippe Lévêque, National Director of the international humanitarian association CARE France, has been awarded the rank of Knight of the Legion of Honour by Alain Juppé, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and Mayor of Bordeaux.

This distinction is to honour Philippe Lévêque’s 28 years of professional and social activities.

Philippe Lévêque was born in Bordeaux Saint Augustin, studied at the Lycée Michel Montaigne, and graduated from the HEC in 1982. He began his professional career with IBM France and Europe, continuing at the computer software editor SYSTAR, where he was the Director of Marketing until 1993.

After spending a year in Africa, he decided to commit himself to the humanitarian cause. Beginning as a volunteer with Doctors of the World, he became the organization’s Director of Development in 1994 and Deputy General Director in 1998.

Philippe Lévêque became National Director of CARE France in May 2000. He led CARE International’s delegation during the special session on AIDS at the United Nations in New York in June 2001. In 2004, Philippe Lévêque was named President of the Middle East and Eastern Europe Region of CARE International, followed by the Administrator of CARE Morocco in 2007. Since December 2009, he has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Counsel of Administration of CARE International in Geneva.

Philippe Lévêque sits on the stakeholders committee for sustainable development for the groups Lafarge, EDF, and Veolia Environment.

He was elected to the board of directors for many charities and professional associations, such as the Comité de la Charte, France Générosités, and Dons Solidaires.
