CARE statement on the recent floods in Pakistan

Statement by Adil Sheraz, CARE Pakistan Country Director:

“Intense floods have swept through Balochistan, Punjab and Sindh provinces in Pakistan, killing more than 300 people. Countless homes have been damaged and livelihoods destroyed and given it is still only pre-monsoon season, we are very concerned that the situation may escalate. CARE is coordinating with provincial and district authorities to assess the needs of affected communities. We know in times of disaster that women and girls are often the most vulnerable, so addressing their needs will be a high priority.”

CARE Pakistan is contributing towards mitigating the impact of disasters through its humanitarian action programs. CARE works in some of the most remote and logistically challenging areas of Pakistan to address the underlying causes of poverty, with a special focus on women, children and the most marginalized people.
