Lindsay Glassco is the Deputy Secretary General at CARE International. Prior to joining the IOC in January 2014, Lindsay was President and CEO of Special Olympics Canada (2012-2014) where she oversaw all operations of the Canadian division of the international organisation, which provides people with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to participate in sport competition and daily programs. Prior to this, she was the Global Director of Policy and Strategy for Right to Play (2007-2011), an international NGO using the transformative power of play to educate and empower children and youth in disadvantaged communities.
Here she also led the organisation through a four-year policy initiative, advocating the use of sport for social change.
Lindsay worked for the Canadian federal government (2000-2007) including at Foreign Affairs and International Trade where she led a global health team. She also worked as a food security consultant (1995-2000) to the Government of Canada and a variety of UN agencies including FAO and UNV. She began her international career teaching at a high school in rural Lesotho (1991-1992) following her first foray in the sports sector as an Account Manager (1989-1990) with the world-leading sports marketing agency International Management Group.
Throughout her career, Lindsay has worked tirelessly towards one overarching goal: the inclusion and social development of the world’s most marginalised people. She was honoured with the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal for significant contributions to social development in Canada.
Lindsay holds a master’s degree (MPhil) in International Development from the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex (England), as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree from McGill University.
Philippe Guiton is a humanitarian expert with 33 years of experience in Africa and the Middle East, and has been in humanitarian leadership positions since 1988 with NGOs and UNHCR at field, country, regional and global levels.
His area of expertise is in disaster management, humanitarian emergency response and related policy, as well as UN and NGO leadership.
Philippe worked in Geneva for three years, where he was the World Vision International Representative to UN organisations, diplomatic missions, ICRC/IFRC and at NGO fora.
He was actively involved in humanitarian policy discussions and related developments such as the roll-out of humanitarian reforms, clusters, CERF, humanitarian financing, preparedness, and humanitarian donor practice and relations.
He was also a member of the Steering Committee for the Humanitarian Response Working Group, the IASC sub-working group on Early Warning and Preparedness, ICVA, and participated in consultations with ALNAP, HAP, Sphere, and others.
As WVI Senior Humanitarian Advisor, Philippe provided interim leadership to country programmes, regional programmes and humanitarian emergency response, and during non-deployment time, he actively participated in various humanitarian policy debates and initiatives.
In his present position he leads CARE International’s humanitarian work worldwide and coordinates international operations among CARE members.
Sofía Sprechmann is Program Director for CARE International and responsible for leading CARE´s program strategy and its implementation world-wide, with the aim of making a significant contribution to fighting poverty and inequality and attaining Sustainable Development Goals.
Sofía joined CARE in 1994 and has worked for the organization in several positions, providing support to programs in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. In particular, she has extensive experience in program design and implementation, impact measurement and evaluation, as well as policy advocacy. She is passionate about addressing gender inequality, having worked alongside some of the most discriminated-against and abused women to support their struggles, such as domestic workers, women working in the garment sector and victims of gender-based violence.
In her current role as Program Director, Sofía oversees the CARE International Secretariat’s work in gender equality, impact measurement and learning, and brings together teams responsible for specific areas of CARE’s work such as sexual and reproductive health and rights, food and nutrition security, women’s economic empowerment, the right to a life free from violence, resilience, inclusive governance and gender equality.
Prior to her work in international development, Sofía worked as a Sociologist in the field of public opinion polls and audience research. She holds a B.A. in Sociology from the Universidad de la República Oriental del Uruguay and an MSc in Epidemiology from the University of London/London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She is originally from Uruguay.
Della Weight is the Director of Fundraising and Public Engagement, supporting CARE Members to coordinate and improve fundraising, communications and advocacy, and fulfil the aims of CARE’s Global Growth Strategy. A strategic leader with more than 30 years of experience in fundraising and organisational development, both in the UK and internationally, Della joined the CARE International Secretariat in 2018. She is passionate about supporter development and improving CARE’s ability to work collectively in today’s global world.
Della joined CARE after 15 years as a successful consultant, heading her own business and working as a Partner at THINK Consulting Solutions, a leading UK-based not-for- profit consultancy with global reach. She has worked with international NGOs and UN agencies in Europe and around the world to support their fundraising and income growth, consistently helping them to achieve their targets and implement cutting-edge fundraising techniques. She is a specialist in strategy & planning, market development, international fundraising; and both individual giving and leadership giving (corporate, foundations and HNWIs). Her clients included the Kofi Annan Foundation, UNHCR, Habitat, WHO, IOM, Save the Children International, Plan International, World Vision, MSF, WHO and SOS Children’s Villages International.
Prior to working as a consultant, Della worked for UNICEF, initially as Head of Fundraising in the UK, and then at their Geneva Headquarters supporting UNICEF’s national committees to grow fundraising. In the latter role, she developed UNICEF’s much-copied guidelines for working with the private sector and helped establish UNICEF’s partnerships team leading global alliances such as Change for Good® with the airline industry.
As a volunteer, Della has worked for many years with the Resource Alliance, a global organisation supporting not-for-profit development, which delivers the renowned International Fundraising Congress annually. She is a graduate of Reading University and when not working, is a passionate gardener.
