New Secretary General takes up interim post as Wolfgang Jamann is appointed ICSC’s Executive Director

With the announcement of Dr Wolfgang Jamann as the International Civil Society Centre’s (ICSC) next Executive Director, CARE International is pleased to welcome Mr Laurie Lee as Interim Secretary General, starting in January 2018.

Mr Lee is no stranger to CARE, serving as the CEO of CARE International UK since August 2014, a role he will continue to fulfil while leading and supporting the Secretariat in the months ahead. He has worked previously in senior roles at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, in the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID), and in advisory roles for the UK government. As he said:

“In the last few years, CARE has increased humanitarian action and more than doubled the number of southern members of the Confederation. We are looking ahead to this year’s global #March4Women campaign as CARE champions equal rights and economic empowerment for women everywhere. I am therefore excited to be leading the Secretariat at this critical stage in the organisation’s mission.”

CARE is grateful to Dr Jamann for his dedicated service based on extensive humanitarian, development and leadership experience and wishes him well at the ICSC which helps civil society organisations maximise their impact for a sustainable and more equitable world. The ICSC, of which CARE is a member, welcomes Dr Jamann as “perfectly equipped to guide the Centre’s work,” a role he takes up effective 19 March 2018 with enthusiasm to “lead the Centre into its next decade.”
