CARE started work in: 1997

Kosovo’s poverty rate is close to 30%. CARE International has been working in Kosovo since 1997 in rural communities and national organizations to address unemployment and gender-based violence.

History of CARE International’s work in Kosovo

CARE International has been working in the Balkans since 1993, initially providing humanitarian aid for refugees and victims of war. Today, we work in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Albania and seek to help build sustainable peace and development in the region. CARE International started working in Kosovo in 1997.

What CARE International does in Kosovo

Unemployment in Kosovo is extremely high. CARE Kosovo works with rural communities, particularly young people, to help them secure sustainable livelihoods from farming and small businesses related to beekeeping and tourism. We also work with national organizations to address gender-based violence and human trafficking.

Since 2020, CARE International has been responding to COVID-19 in the Balkans. Response efforts have included mobilizing national civil society organizations to inform communities in methods to prevent the spread of COVID-19, as well as providing equipment and support to healthcare institutions serving marginalized populations.
