CARE statement on October 8th attack in Yemen

An attack at a funeral gathering in Sanaa, Yemen yesterday claimed the lives of an estimated 140 people and injured hundreds of others.  This is the most devastating attack on innocent civilians in the 18 month conflict in Yemen that has so far left 14 million people in need of urgent humanitarian assistance.

Such unwarranted attacks on civilians is unacceptable and should not be left unaccounted.  All parties to the conflict in Yemen must fulfill their responsibilities in protecting civilian lives and infrastructure.

CARE International in Yemen stands with the UN and INGOs in Yemen in condemning yesterday’s heinous attack and calls for urgent investigations on the incident to bring its perpetrators to account.
