The CI Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland, is the home of the CARE Emergency Group (CEG), which facilitates the coordination and integration of CARE's emergency response and preparedness.
CEG is composed of a dozen professional staff who can be deployed on the ground within the first 48 hours of an emergency.
CEG's mandate focuses on six key functions relating to emergency preparedness and response:
- Emergency coordination within the membership
- Ensuring emergency preparedness in high risk countries that are likely to experience a natural or man-made disaster
- Providing operational, strategic and policy support to country offices that are responding to emergencies
- Ensuring that the highest levels of quality and accountability are maintained
- Facilitating the development and implementation of policy relating to humanitarian action within the membership
- Coordinating and representing CARE International at international humanitarian forums.
